UMAINE AUGUSTA MOOSE SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH SMCC
UMaine Augusta Moose Softball battled the SMCC Seawolves in a competitive doubleheader on Tuesday, falling in game one before responding with a dominant performance in game two to earn the split.
GAME ONE | SMCC 10, UMA 2
Southern Maine Community College set the tone early, scoring in the first inning and adding another run in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Moose answered in the bottom of the third when Natalie Gilman launched a two-run home run to left field, evening the score at 2-2.
SMCC regained control in the fourth, using a two-run double by Ella Voth followed by an RBI groundout to make it 5-2. The Seawolves then broke the game open in the fifth, plating five runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run single from Taylor Swift and a two-run home run by Hayley Cowan.
Gilman led the Moose offensively with two RBIs, while Madilyn Cote, Arabel Linkletter, Sam Withee, and Gilman each recorded a hit. Addison McCormick took the loss in the circle, working five innings with three strikeouts.
GAME TWO | UMA 13, SMCC 5
The Moose responded in emphatic fashion in game two. After SMCC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, UMA erupted for five runs in the bottom half of the inning to seize control. Audrey Nile delivered the key hit with a two-RBI single to spark the rally.
UMA continued to build its lead, adding runs in the second and third before a four-run fourth inning broke the game open. Natalie Gilman and Addison McCormick each homered during the surge as the Moose offense rolled.
The Moose finished with 11 hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. Nile paced the lineup with four RBIs, while Sam Withee went a perfect 3-for-3. McCormick and Linkletter added multi-hit performances.
Shannah Parsons earned the win in the circle, allowing five runs over five innings.
UMA's resilience was on full display, bouncing back from a tough game one to secure a convincing victory and a split against a strong SMCC squad.
