MOOSE SWEEP PENN STATE SCRANTON
UMaine Augusta Moose Softball take both in a doubleheader vs Penn State Scranton.
GAME ONE
The UMA Moose opened Sunday's doubleheader with a dominant 11–1 victory over Penn State Scranton.
After Scranton took an early 1–0 lead in the first inning, UMA responded quickly in the second. Sam Withee sparked the rally with a double, while Madilyn Cote and Norra Idano each drove in runs to give the Moose a 3–1 advantage. Addison McCormick added to the lead in the third with an RBI single.
The Moose broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating five runs on six hits. Madilyn Cote and Aubrey Peer each delivered RBI doubles, while Natalie Gilman highlighted the inning with a run-scoring double of her own. Audrey Nile capped the rally with an RBI single.
Gilman led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, while Nile matched her with three hits and drove in a team-high three runs. UMA totaled 15 hits in the game, with multiple players contributing at the plate.
In the circle, Addison McCormick earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. The Moose were also flawless defensively, committing no errors.
GAME TWO
Game two turned into an offensive battle, with the Moose outlasting Penn State Scranton for a 14–11 win to complete the sweep.
UMA jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on walks, hits, and a Scranton error to plate multiple runs. However, Scranton responded with a five-run third inning to even things up and kept the pressure on throughout.
The Moose answered in a big way in the fifth, erupting for six runs on seven hits. Key RBIs from Audrey Nile, Arabel Linkletter, Madilyn Cote, and Aubrey Peer helped UMA regain control of the game.
Scranton continued to fight back, matching with another five-run inning, but UMA held strong down the stretch to secure the win.
Arabel Linkletter and Shannah Parsons led the offense with three hits apiece, while Nile, Cote, and Peer each added multiple hits as part of a 17-hit team performance. UMA also showed patience at the plate and aggressiveness on the bases, drawing walks and swiping three bases.
Shannah Parsons earned the win in the circle, going the distance in a high-scoring contest.
