UMaine Augusta Softball takes both games in a YSCC showdown vs the CMCC Mustangs
GAME ONE
Shannah Parsons delivered a standout performance, driving in five runs with four hits to lead the UMA Moose to an exciting 11-9 victory over the CMCC Mustangs on Tuesday. Parsons made her mark early, doubling in the first inning to score two runs and again in the sixth to add two more. Her final double in the seventh brought in another crucial run.
The Moose got on the scoreboard first, as Parsons' double gave them a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Aubrey Peer later extended the Moose advantage to 3-1 in the third with a walk.
The Mustangs fought back and managed to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on an error and a ground out by Olivia Rioux, along with another mistake by the Moose defense.
However, the Moose reclaimed control in the seventh inning, pulling ahead 11-7. Annabelle Morris started the rally with a double that scored one run, followed by Natalie Gilman's single that brought in two more, and then Parsons' double that added to the lead.
On the mound, Addison McCormick earned the win for the Moose, allowing 11 hits and nine runs (four earned) over six innings while striking out five and walking four. Melody Rousselle took the loss for the Mustangs after pitching seven innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on 16 hits, with three strikeouts and four walks. Parsons also collected a save for her efforts.
The Moose totaled 16 hits in the game, with Sam Withee, Natalie Gilman, Audrey Nile, and Annabelle Morris each making significant contributions with multiple hits. They demonstrated a solid approach at the plate, drawing four walks throughout the game.
The Mustangs recorded 12 hits, with Olivia Rioux, Melody Rousselle, and Brook Norman each contributing two. Rioux and Vanessa St. Pierre led the way for CMCC, driving in three runs apiece as the team worked the count effectively, earning four walks.
GAME TWO
The UMA Moose dominated the CMCC Mustangs with a commanding 13-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader, highlighted by a remarkable seven-run third inning. The Moose capitalized on a couple of errors that allowed two runs to score, while Annabelle Morris doubled to bring in two more. Addison McCormick and Shannah Parsons also contributed key hits, with McCormick's single adding one run and Parsons' single driving in two.
The Moose got off to a strong start in the first inning, as Addison McCormick doubled to score two runs. A fielder's choice from Melody Rousselle allowed Audrey Nile to cross the plate, making it 3-0 early on.
In the second inning, Natalie Gilman extended the lead with a powerful home run to center field, adding three more runs to the Moose's tally.
Shannah Parsons delivered a stellar performance on the mound, earning the win by throwing five innings of no-hit ball, striking out two and walking five. Melody Rousselle took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing six runs on six hits over one and two-thirds innings.
The Moose showcased their offensive prowess with a total of 16 hits. Annabelle Morris led the charge with an impressive four hits in five at-bats. Both Addison McCormick and Natalie Gilman were formidable at the plate, each driving in three runs. Additionally, Shannah Parsons, Kassidy Barrett, and Audrey Nile contributed multiple hits to the Moose's strong offensive outing. Gilman also demonstrated patience, earning two walks as the team collectively drew five walks throughout the game.
