Thompson shoots into the record books in win

Thompson's 29 points helped the University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team to a 128-84 victory over Great Bay Community College in Yankee Small College Conference action Monday night at the Augusta Civic Center.
Thompson (Yuma, Ariz.) shot 50% from behind the arc, going 9-18 to break the 24-year old mark previously held by Rob Lamarre in the 1991-92 season. The first-year guard began hit eight triples in his home debut for the Moose (1-3, 1-1 YSCC). Great Bay (0-4, 0-2 YSCC) was led by Davin Hardin, who scored 18 points and registered six steals.
Thompson turned in one of several outstanding offensive performances for head coach Jim Ford's team, with senior Keith Chesley (Lawrence, Maine) scoring a season-high 38 points and Brandon Rogers going an impressive 15-17 from the floor for 33 points. The senior duo of Chesley and Rogers were dominating on the boards for the Moose, combining for 46 of UMA's 69 rebounds on the night. Rogers grabbed 26 boards, including 10 on the offensive side of the board, while Chesley ripped 20 rebounds.
Rogers came up just two assists shy of a triple-double, with a game-high eight dishes on the night while also recording a season-high five blocks. Freshman Dustin West (Madison, Maine) was also in double-digits for UMA, scoring 14 points for the night.
The offensive output was the most in over five years for the Moose, who return to action on Thursday night when the team travels to the University of Maine at Machias in conference action.
