UMaine Augusta drops tough Season Opener against Southern Maine 1-6
SUMMARY
The UMaine Augusta Women's tennis team traveled to Gorham High School to play against the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis team on Thursday evening. With the doubles matches starting first, the Moose got off to a quick start winning at the No. 3 doubles spot with the pairing of Hayden Hoague and Lexis Bayne defeating Muriel Lattin and Alexis Hayward (USM) 6-1. Shortly after, USM tied up the doubles match with the No. 2 pairing of Hanni Johnson and Willa Wilson winning 6-0 against Isabelle Greenleaf and Orlane Bognini. It then came down to a long match at the No. 1 doubles pairing, where Hannah Roberts and Arian Gilman from UMA battled long games, where several went to deuce and were decided on the next point. Payton Thibodeau and Alyssa Conley ended up winning the set 6-2 to give USM the 1-0 lead heading into the singles matches.
Going into the singles matches, the lone Mosse to win her singles match was Lexis Bayne at the No. 6 singles spot, defeating Alexis Hayward (USM) 6-1, 6-4.
