UMaine Augusta fights hard and sees great progress in exciting matchup as UNE outlast the Moose to win 5-2

 

The UMaine Augusta Women's tennis team hosted the UNE women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon at Kennebec Valley Tennis Association in Augusta, ME. With the three doubles matches taking the courts first, the No. 2 doubles team pairing for UNE of Zoe Lambke and Sydney Pelletier finished first, by beating Orlane Bognini and Isabelle Greenleaf 6-2. The next match to finish was at the No. 1 doubles pairing, where Hannah Roberts and Arian Gilman from UMA had many chances to win more games, but the pairing from UNE of Madeline Frank and Nora Hill were a bit more consistent to hold on and win 6-2. Although the win and the No. 1 doubles spot gave UNE the 1st point in the overall match, the No. 3 doubles spot with the pairing of Hayden Hoague and Lexis Bayne got off to a very quick start leading Alyssa Fritschka and Olivia Crooker from UNE 5-1, only to see the lead slip away and get to 5-4. Hayden Hoague was able to bring some of her best serving to fight off the comeback and give UMA the win at the No. 3 doubles spot with a win of 6-4.

 

Going into the singles matches, two of the six singles matches went to three sets! Other matches saw very long first or second sets from the Moose players. 

The Moose got some great singles wins from Arian Giman at the No. 3 singles spot, defeating  Sydney Pelletier (UNE) 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

The other Moose player to lock in a singles win was Hayden Hoague at the No. 5 singles spot, defeating Olivia Crooker (UNE) 6-2, 6-4.
