January 28, 2014
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Maine at Augusta Junior Brandon Rogers (Turlock, Ca.) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Player of the Week on Tuesday for his standout performance last week.
Rogers guided the Moose to a 2-1 record last week, and 3-1 in the last four games. The 6'7 center averaged 25 points per game on 53.4% shooting from the floor in helping UMA climb into the thick of the playoff race. Rogers continued his domination on the boards as well, averaging 15.7 rebounds per game while also averaging just under three assists and two blocks per game.
Rogers, who studies English at UMA, is currently leading the nation in rebounding in both USCAA Division I and II. His average of 12.5 boards per game is almost a full rebound ahead of the next closest player in the country.
In his first season at UMA, Rogers is leading head coach Jim Ford's team in almost every major statistical category. He leads the Moose in scoring (19.3ppg), rebounds, and field goal percentage, hitting 47.7% of his shots from the floor.
UMA will look to continue their solid play on Friday night, when the team hosts YSCC rival Hampshire College at Southern Maine Community College in Portland. Game time is set for 8:00 pm.
