Moose Finish Strong at USCAA National Championship
State College, PA - The Moose went into the USCAA Golf National Championships with high aspirations to not only compete against the best players in the YSCC but to try their luck against the best in all of the USCAA. Ty Cowan got off to a strong start on day one finishing with a 18-hole round score of 84. Cowan said the course was in great condition and he felt like he really hit the ball well and sometimes the score doesn't always reflect how you played. Senior captain, David Kearns finished day one with a score of 89 but was able to bounce back in a big way on Tuesday (final round) by shooting a 84 to finish in a tie for 60th place out of 112 quailifed competitors. Cowan followed up day one with a second day score of 85 to finish tied for 48th...
Coach Douglas "Doc" Merrill said he was extremely proud of the guys and the way they played. He said the future is extremely bright for the Moose and next year he fully expects to have the Moose compete as a team at the National tournament (opposed to as individuals in Fall 2022)...
The Moose will have a quick turn around as they will hit the links this Saturday, October 16th at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH for the YSCC Championship hosted by GBCC. Cowan (#6 ranked golfer in the YSCC) and Kearns (#13 ranked golfer in the YSCC) will look to play their best rounds of the season and Jacob Suttie (#23 ranked golfer in the YSCC) will look to continue his strong play.
