Women's Basketball Team Captains
AUGUSTA, ME—The University of Maine at Augusta women’s basketball program would like to announce the captains of the 2014-2015 Lady Moose team. Courtney Jicks of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Jamie Plummer of Richmond, Maine will take over reins of captaincy this season. Both Jicks and Plummer were incredible leaders on an off the court this past season and will use their recent experience of from the first National Bid in Lady Moose basketball history with the large group of incoming freshman.
Jicks finished her freshman season as the team’s leading defender. She was honored in the YSCC Championship game with the Outstanding Defensive Award. Jicks is known throughout the league for diving after every loose ball and being able to guard the league’s best point guard or the best post player. Her physicality, versatility, and willingness to give everything to her team will allow her to continue to be a successful co-captain and teammate.
Plummer returns to the Lady Moose as the second leading scorer from the 2013-2014 season. Her size finds her in the post most games but Plummer is also a lethal scorer from beyond the arc. Her speed and agility as a big player makes her a unique talent for the Lady Moose. Plummer is a very positive player who continuously looks for the good in every situation. Both her work ethic and positive mindset will help her fill the co-captain role on this young team.
“The leadership and experience that Jamie and Courtney give to this young team is well beyond their sophomore standing,” boasts head coach Jennifer Laney on the naming of the team’s captains. “The leadership roles they took as freshman last year and the extensive game experience that they played through will allow them to lead this team in a very strong and positive way.”
The Lady Moose look to continue the success of their program this year with the addition of extremely talented players on their roster. Over the past few years, the Lady Moose have extended their schedule to include many NCAA Division III opponents. This strength of schedule will help the Lady Moose in their pursuit of a second National bid.
