Men's Basketball Team Captains
AUGUSTA, ME—The University of Maine at Augusta men’s basketball program would like to announce the captains of the 2014-2015 Moose team. Head Coach Jim Ford has appointed Keith Chesley, Brandon Rogers, and Garrett Alley as co-captains. They bring extensive experience to this team as the Moose plan to build upon their success in the Yankee Small College Conference last season.
“Our captains bring a strong on and off the court desire to build team chemistry, communication and leadership capabilities,” boasts Coach Ford. “Each of the captains give 100% hustle all of the time and have solid basketball backgrounds to lead effectively on the court.”
Keith Chelsey is returning for his third season with the Moose. Chesley has been a standout leader on and off the court for the past two seasons at UMA. Chelsey finished first in the Nation last year in offensive rebounds. At a mere 6’1, he battles in the paint to help the Moose with second chance opportunities. Chelsey’s hard work and determination on both ends of the court make him an excellent teammate and a great team captain. Chesley is pursuing a degree in Liberal Studies with a self-designed program in Special Education. He is dedicated to his studies. All of his hard work in the classroom combined with his tenacity on the court will enable Chesley to be a great role model for the incoming class of freshman.
Brandon Rogers is back for his second year as a Moose. He earned his spot in the co-captain role from his consistent leadership with last year’s team both on and off the court. Rogers led the Nation last year in rebounding (12.3 per game) and was 7th in blocks. He will continue to be a strong force in the paint this coming season. Rogers also averaged 19 points per game in the Moose’s 26 game schedule last season. Off the court, Rogers is an outstanding student, majoring in Liberal Studies with a minor in Secondary Education. Brandon will help show the incoming student-athletes the importance of academics and athletics.
Garrett Alley is entering his senior year at UMA and his fourth year playing for the Moose. Alley’s presence in the paint for the Moose has been electrifying. At 6’5, he has been a powerhouse offensively and defensively on the boards. Alley will bring that same strength and experience to the team this season. Alley graduated with an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology in the spring of 2013 and decided to continue his education at UMA. He will earn a BA in Biology.
The captains’ goal will be to unite the Moose as a cohesive team this season. Coach Jim Ford has great expectations for these captains and for the team. GO MOOSE!
