Senior Spotlight: Nate Martin
Nate Martin is a Winslow native and has made a significant contribution to UMA Athletics since his freshman year. Martin is the definition of a versatile athlete as he is a year-round athlete for the Moose. During the fall semester Nate plays on the golf team and has improved on his golf game each year, becoming a leader for the Moose.
As golf season winds down Martin heads to the basketball court where he has been a defensive threat for the Moose, fighting for every rebound on the court. Coach Jim Ford had this to say about Martin: “Nate's quickness to the ball resulted in over 600 rebounds. His unselfish play led to many assists while over his career he developed a soft three point shot from behind the arch.” Martin was captain of the men’s basketball team his senior year.
Martin was a member of the inaugural track team at UMA and was a threat at the USCAA National Invitational last season in the long and triple jump as well as the 800m. When asked about his time at UMA as a Moose, Martin added, "This has been a great four years of making lifelong friendships and memories and I will be grateful for that forever.” As a member of the track program, Coach Gilpatrick notes: “Nate is the type of student-athlete that every coach wants to have on their team. He leads by example, gives 100%, and has a team-first mentality.”
